Granddaughter of jazz trumpet great Nat Adderley, great niece of jazz saxophone legend "Cannonball" Adderley and daughter of Nat Adderley, Jr. (producer/pianist/band leader for Luther Van Dross), Akina brings a distinguished musical pedigree to the Vintage Playboys, who are a tight group of seasoned players from an eclectic musical background.

The brainchild of four inspired musicians, AAVP is now a powerhouse 9-piece, and has become a vital part of Austin's newly resurrected "Soul Scene." From the unlikely beach town of Oxnard, 40 miles north of Los Angeles, the multi-dimensional Madlib quickly rose to prominence as one of the most interesting figures in late-'90s hip-hop. With his childhood buddies in Lootpack, Madlib quickly made a name for himself as a rapper, producer, and DJ. In particular, his expansive style and deft touch for composition made him one of hip-hop's most sought-after producers. An enthusiastic crate-digger, with a deep reverence for jazz and soul, Madlib branched out into a number of ambitious, engaging solo projects.
• Gaslamp Killer
Los Angeles, CA

The Gaslamp Killer is a Los Angeles-based DJ whose eclectic style ranges from psychedelia and world music to dubstep and left-field hip-hop. Associated with Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder Records, he made his production debut in the late 2000s with a series of EPs. Born William Benjamin Bensussen, he originally comes from San Diego, CA, whose downtown Gaslamp District’s bar scene inspired him to name himself the Gaslamp Killer in disgust for much of the patronage. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, he found a niche for himself amid the city’s massive underground party scene and ultimately found a home for himself as a resident DJ at the club Low End Theory, which resulted in a series of club-sponsored podcasts. He also released a series of mix CDs, among them Gaslamp Killers (2007), It’s a Rocky Road (2007), I Spit on Your Grave (2008), Hell and the Lake of Fire Are Waiting for You! (2009), and All Killer (2009), the latter a label showcase for the London-based world psychedelia imprint Finders Keepers Records. As a producer, the Gaslamp Killer made his debut in the late 2000s, releasing, for instance, a split single with Free the Robots, “The Killer Robots,” on Obey Records in 2008 and an EP, My Troubled Mind, on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder Records in 2009.

 • Ursula 1000
New York City, NY

ESL Music’s URSULA 1000 is the alter ego of Brooklyn, New York based producer/DJ Alex Gimeno. His albums and mix sessions have taken on a broad scope of retro tinged spy grooves, bumping latin disco funk, hints of post punk electro go go, sleazy glam rock…And he never stops evolving.

You can hear it in his remixes for the likes of Quincy Jones, Felix Da Housecat, The Faint, Fort Knox Five to a slew of television remodels for themes to Seasme Street, The Powerpuff Girls, The Incredibles and Yo Gabba Gabba. Scenes for Sex And The City, Grey’s Anatomy and Ugly Betty popped even more with a helping of a little Ursula as have campaigns for AT&T, Samsung and Adidas.

His collaborations with Dr.Luke, Shag, Cristina, Los Amigos Invisibles, Misty Roses, Federico Aubele to name a few brought forth sheer magic on the three albums, The Now Sound of Ursula 1000, Kinda’ Kinky and Here Comes Tomorrow. All Systems Are Go Go and Ursadelica showed the world his dj skills and ear for the finest in hip shaking groovers. Undressed had it all re-imagined by electronic’s finest-Deekline, Ladytron, Product.01, Malente and more.

While traveling the world dj-ing at places like Fabric, The Big Chill Festival, Shambhala or even at his home residency at APT, he takes in all his experiences and turns out his turn ons into a psychedelic brain stew.

 • Mary Anne Hobbs
London, England

Mary Anne Hobbs is an English DJ and music journalist from Garstang, Lancashire. She is best known for her Radio 1 show on BBC, pushing next generation dubstep, grime, drum&bass, hip-hop, techno, dark dancefloor and radical electronic flavours in every form.

In the 1980s, at the age of 19, she worked as a journalist for Sounds Magazine. She later went to work for the NME, before going on to help found Loaded Magazine. She got her break in radio at BBC GLR, working alongside Mark Lamarr. She then worked at XFM before going to BBC Radio 1. She shot a TV series about global biker culture ‘Mary Anne’s Bikes’ in Japan, America, Russia, India, and Europe for BBC Choice & BBC World in 2003, and presented the World Superbikes series 2005 for British Eurosport. She also compèred the Leeds Festival between 1999 and 2003.

A fan of rock, heavy metal and motorbikes from an early age, she fronted the Radio 1 Rock Show and the experimental / electronic Breezeblock on BBC Radio 1 for a number of years. In September 2006 the Breezeblock name was dropped for the title ‘Experimental’, but the show retained the name of its host in the title. Most recently, Hobbs has been a notable champion of the dubstep and grime genres.

Her 2 hour special ‘Dubstep Warz’ on BBC Radio 1 in January 2006 is widely regarded as the show that broke the dubstep sound globally and consequently she has become viewed by many on the Dubstep scene as an almost maternal figure. She released a groundbreaking dark electronic compilation album on Planet Mu records entitled Warrior Dubz in October 2006, drawing the sonic parallels between dubstep, grime, dark dancefloor, techno, d&b and hip hop. In June 2007, Hobbs curated the UK Dubstep showcase at the Sónar festival with Skream, Oris Jay and Kode 9, taking the sound out of club environments and onto an international festival stage in front of 8,500 people for the very first time. On 7 February 2008 the “Dubstep Souljahs” documentary she made for BBC Radio 1 aired inside Pete Tong’s In New Music We Trust show. Her second compilation album, Evangeline, was released on 16 June 2008 on Planet Mu records. This coincided with her second Sonar Festival Stage featuring Shackleton, Flying Lotus and Mala from Digital Mystikz. In 2009 she returned to the festival with Joker, Gaslamp Killer and Martyn.
• DJ OBaH
New York City, New York

DJ OBaH turned a family legacy into a profession, becoming a rising industry music producer and highly sought after NYC DJ. OBaH stands for OldskoolBeatsAndHarmonies for a very good reason... the son of veteran NYC DJ/Record Dealer, Baba Chico, DJ OBaH had the world's best funk, jazz & soul records at his fingertips. Armed with his father's epic record collection, OBaH quickly made his mark on the NYC club scene, becoming the resident DJ at several nightclubs in his native Brooklyn.

Quickly gaining respect and a solid fan base, his first big break came courtesy of world-renowned producer Rich Medina, who invited OBaH to spin at his weekly party at APT in the meatpacking district of NYC. Since then, OBaH has spun in well over 50 venues in NYC, across the U.S. and Europe and has DJ'd private parties for Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, Donna Karan and many other A-list celebrities. • Claes Rosén,
Producer, All Out Dubstep

Whilst being known for pushing the boundaries of dubstep together with his production partner Ola Naslund going under the guise of L-Wiz, Claes Rosen has been establishing himself as the “man of melodies” who never ceases to astonish his listeners.

Being born in Sweden, Claes is known for having a very eclectic and atmospheric sound that shows off a quality of production that is rarely heard nowadays. Claes’s impressive production skills have taken form as an instant and relentless reaction to the absence of electronic music that shimmers with the presence of melodies – which has given him one of the most sought after epithets in the world of music; to have an own “sound”. Taking use of his skills Claes partially creates music stretching far beyond his invisible boundaries, regardless if it’s deep house or music for Swedish TV-commercials.

Creating music that takes your thoughts to a late night city full of life, the sound of one of the most melodic producers in the business clearly has a distinctive touch and sense of rhythm surrounding every note finding its way to the listener. Claes’s clever and forward thinking approach to electronic music has rapidly taken his name to the utmost stratum of producers, and to many, his a name is synonymous to the finest music within the genre of progressive house and trance.

Claes is undoubtedly a diligent and at the same time diverse producer that for a long time has been supported by the biggest names in the game, maintaining an image as an unfailing artist of living and stunning music.
 • Thievery Corporation
Washington D.C.

Thievery Corporation make abstract, instrumental, mid-tempo dance music somewhere between trip-hop and acid jazz. The production duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, Thievery Corporation released a few warmly received singles on their own Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL) label (named for their Washington, D.C. bar and nightclub) in 1996. Previously known primarily among acid jazz and rare-groove DJs, the group shot to minor celebrity when a track from one of their early 12"'s appeared on respected DJ/producers Kruder & Dorfmeister's mix session for Studio K7's DJ Kicks series. Similar in many respects (and more than just number) to that Viennese production duo, Thievery Corporation subsequently grew in popularity among a wider audience of DJs and headphonaunts. Their debut full-length appeared in 1997, along with a compilation of Washington, D.C.-based electronica artists, Dubbed Out in DC (both on ESL). After 4AD signed the duo they began work on their second LP but were forced to postpone the release date after tapes were stolen in a mugging. The stopgap remix compilation Abductions & Reconstructions was released in 1999, and their second proper album The Mirror Conspiracy followed a year later. Their growing fame made them a natural to select tracks for the 2001 Verve compilation Sounds From the Verve Hi-Fi, and one year later, the duo returned with a third production LP, The Richest Man in Babylon. The mix album Outernational Sound and remix EP Babylon Rewound appeared in 2004. The Cosmic Game from 2005 featured guest vocalists Perry Farrell, the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, and David Byrne. A year later a second remix compilation, Versions, was released.
