DJ OBaH turned a family legacy into a profession, becoming a rising industry music producer and highly sought after NYC DJ. Armed with his father's epic record collection, OBaH quickly made his mark on the NYC club scene, becoming the resident DJ at several nightclubs in his native Brooklyn.
• Del The Funky Homosapien
Oakland, CA

Telling stories about more innocent misadventures than his hardcore hip-hop counterparts, Del the Funky Homosapien was a precocious 17 year old when he released his first album, I Wish My Brother George Was Here, in 1991 on Elektra. Produced by his cousin, gangsta archetype Ice Cube, the album introduced to the rap world Del's charismatic, sing-along rap style and everyday lyrics that had served him well for years in the Bay Area underground. From his hometown of Oakland, California, Del had been rhyming with his friends known as the Hieroglyphics crew--Casual, A-Plus, Tajai, and the Souls of Mischief--since grade school, shunning the hard gangsta approach in favor of good-time, off-kilter rhyming. "Del's like the antithesis of the jiggy aesthetic," producer/label executive Dante Ross, who first signed the young rapper to Elektra in 1990 and remained a close friend, told Charles Aaron of Spin. "But as far as skills, he's up there with anybody."
• The Glitch Mob
Los Angeles, CA

The Glitch Mob is a four man musical collaboration with roots from San Francisco and Los Angeles. What initially started as a joke/loose affiliation soon stuck as edIT, Boreta, Kraddy and Ooah found themselves frequently playing the same shows and eventually tag teaming during back to back time slots. This eventually led to the four man sonic onslaught of ferocious bass, head cracking drums and infinitely complex rhythms. A proverbial Voltron effect on stage. Taking influences from hip-hop, experimental, and dance genres, The Glitch Mob have crafted their own form of futuristic dance floor hip-hop that has been "slaying" audiences world wide. Their live sets reinvent the dj “tag-team” concept with four performers on stage at once, interacting like a jazz combo, each taking the lead at intuitive moments, interweaving their own sounds, and remixing everything on the fly. The result is a sound distinctly their own, blending the deep head nod of hip-hop with serious bass music, throwing genre distinctions out the window. The Glitch Mob has been one of the cornerstones of this new electronic hip hop movement that has emerged from Glasgow to Montreal and back to Los Angeles.
• Rebirth Brass Band
New Orleans, LA

The Rebirth Brass Band rose from the streets of New Orleans to international renown with a mix of the brass-band tradition and a refreshingly modern sensibility. The Rebirth Brass Band mastered the traditional jazz sound of their hometown and then melded it with funk, R&B and, most recently, hip-hop, they are as capable with spirituals and rags as it is with brass-band boogie.

Formed in the early ‘80’s by Philip Frazier, Keith Frazier and Kermit Ruffins, all former schoolmates, the band has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. The band is a regular highlight of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where their 1982 performance led to a record deal, and a strong loyal audience following. As always, the Rebirth Brass Band promises to get the party started Crescent City-style and then take listeners on a stirring ride through traditions old and new.

Kermit Ruffins has moved on to form his own band The Barbeque Swingers, and has himself become quite the local celebrity. Rebirth's longstanding regular Tuesday night gig at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans has become a mainstay on the city’s music itinerary. Their drummer Derrick Tabb, was in 2009 picked as a finalist for the CNN Heroes award, for his founding commitment to the Roots of Music after school program in the city of New Orleans.

Rebirth, as they are affectionately known in the Big Easy, is always on call and have earned their reputation by showing up and “taking it to the streets.”

In the ongoing wake of the disaster that was/is Katrina, Rebirth has taken become a role model for young musicians to look up to in learning about and maintaining their long and rich musical heritage.

The current line up of the band is Phil Frazier-Tuba, Keith Frazier-Bass Drum, Derek Shezbie-Trumpet, Glen Andrews- Trumpet, Stafford Agee-Trombone, Corey Henry-Trombone, Derrick Tabb-Snare Drum, Vincent Broussard-Saxophone, and Chaderick Honore-Trumpet
• Rusko
London, UK

Christopher Mercer, aka Rusko was born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day one Rusko was surrounded by music. Whether it be his family’s pianos, guitars, banjos and saxophones…or the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of later years in Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Rusko’s life.

After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through Sub Dub and a debut appearance from the Digital Mystikz. Having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities with Sub Soldiers label mate Caspa.

Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko brought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive and quickly coined his own take on the genre and turned the scene upside down. His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit Cockney Thug has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold, and has been remixed by Buraka Som Sistema, Diplo, Caspa, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.

Now at 23, Rusko is only in first gear, with collaborations on the table with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Yo Majesty and Wiley, the future sure is looking bright. Already setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists like Adele and A-Trak featuring Kid Sister, Rusko is headed in the right directions. Onwards, upwards and far beyond what most producers can dream of.

 • DJ Qbert
San Francisco, CA

Richard Quitevis, better known as DJ Qbert to fans throughout the world, has attracted attention since 1985 when audiences realized his skills on the turntables were beyond comprehension. Through years of creativity, imagination, practice, and dedication he developed the art of using the turntable as a musical instrument by inventing unimaginable styles and creating unique systems of skratching. Today turntablism continues to advance and branch out into diversified directions. History established that DJ Qbert, currently a member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz (ISP), heralded a new era in the DJ/turntablist community, and helped raise this art to its new form.

Heavily influenced by the styles of world-renowned jazz musician Miles Davis, famous electric guitarists Jimmy Hendrix and Les Paul, pianist Thelonius Monk, and original and innovative DJs throughout the world, DJ Qbert interprets their compositions to create sounds and styles that continue to generate a worldwide following. In the early 90's, DJ Qbert dominated the DJ scene with his talent and skills. After claiming the titles of the Disco Mixing Club (DMC) 1991 USA Champion and the 1992-1994 DMC World Champion, he was asked by the DMC founders to judge the 1995 DMC Championships instead of actually competing. In June 1998, DJ Qbert, along with another member of ISP, MixMaster Mike, received the DMC DJ Hall of Fame award for outstanding contributions to the competition and more importantly, the industry.

The most documented DJ in the world, DJ Qbert has been featured in numerous local and national publications including Details, XXL, Spin, Jazziz, and the Bay Area Magazine (BAM), as well as international magazines and newspapers. In January 1998, DJ Qbert and the ISP crew graced the cover of the highly circulated URB magazine.

Also in 1998 DJ Qbert appeared in two international movies: Hang The DJ and Modulations. Both films appeared in highly respected film festivals. The former was shown at the Cannes Film Festival held in Cannes, France, and the latter emerged at the Sundance Festival in Colorado. The documentary Hang The DJ, featured DJ Qbert and his unbelievable techniques. His impact on the world DJ culture and the industry has influenced artists not only in the hip-hop genre, but in all music categories. Modulations, a film documenting the history and culture of electronic music highlighted DJ Qbert and his skills on the turntable.

In November 1998, DJ Qbert released his solo debut album Wave Twisters. This concept album, presents a story about an entire civilization residing in inner space, and the only form of communication is through the sounds of skratching. It will be followed by a full-length animated film, which is expected to premier in the summer of 2000. This film is the world's first hip-hop concept-album cartoon, which adds to the uniqueness and superiority of DJ Qbert's album Wave Twisters. DJ Qbert is considered the greatest DJ/turntablist in the world and of all time. His album Wave Twisters captured audiences worldwide. This album delivers DJ Qbert's solo improvisations, along with songs created through breaking all types of instruments into intricate symbols. The first skratch concept album ever created made its debut November 10, 1998.
• Thievery Corporation
Washington D.C.

Thievery Corporation make abstract, instrumental, mid-tempo dance music somewhere between trip-hop and acid jazz. The production duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, Thievery Corporation released a few warmly received singles on their own Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL) label (named for their Washington, D.C. bar and nightclub) in 1996. Previously known primarily among acid jazz and rare-groove DJs, the group shot to minor celebrity when a track from one of their early 12"'s appeared on respected DJ/producers Kruder & Dorfmeister's mix session for Studio K7's DJ Kicks series. Similar in many respects (and more than just number) to that Viennese production duo, Thievery Corporation subsequently grew in popularity among a wider audience of DJs and headphonaunts. Their debut full-length appeared in 1997, along with a compilation of Washington, D.C.-based electronica artists, Dubbed Out in DC (both on ESL). After 4AD signed the duo they began work on their second LP but were forced to postpone the release date after tapes were stolen in a mugging. The stopgap remix compilation Abductions & Reconstructions was released in 1999, and their second proper album The Mirror Conspiracy followed a year later. Their growing fame made them a natural to select tracks for the 2001 Verve compilation Sounds From the Verve Hi-Fi, and one year later, the duo returned with a third production LP, The Richest Man in Babylon. The mix album Outernational Sound and remix EP Babylon Rewound appeared in 2004. The Cosmic Game from 2005 featured guest vocalists Perry Farrell, the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, and David Byrne. A year later a second remix compilation, Versions, was released.
