The Rebirth Brass Band rose from the streets of New Orleans to international renown with a mix of the brass-band tradition and a refreshingly modern sensibility. The Rebirth Brass Band mastered the traditional jazz sound of their hometown and then melded it with funk, R&B and, most recently, hip-hop, they are as capable with spirituals and rags as it is with brass-band boogie.

Formed in the early ‘80’s by Philip Frazier, Keith Frazier and Kermit Ruffins, all former schoolmates, the band has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. The band is a regular highlight of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where their 1982 performance led to a record deal, and a strong loyal audience following. As always, the Rebirth Brass Band promises to get the party started Crescent City-style and then take listeners on a stirring ride through traditions old and new.

  • Lipp Service<br /> New York, NY<br /> <br /> From Tacoma to San Francisco to Chicago to Los Angeles to New York, producer Eliot Lipp has always followed the music. Creating songs that, according to XLR8R, "tickle days after the last spin," he combines hip-hop influenced drum programming with the vintage synthesizer sounds found in the cutting edge electronic music of the 70s. Eliot Lipp's early career saw him vigorously honing his skill on the club circuit where his fresh and daring take on hip-hop impressed Scott Herren (Prefuse 73) so much that he put out his 2004 debut LP on Eastern Developments. Releases on Hefty, Mush, and 1320 have followed and meanwhile Eliot”s hectic tour schedule puts him in front of fresh faces to showcase his skills. Now looking for the next evolution in his live show Eliot has launched his band Lipp Service. The concept is simple, live drums and bass along with Eliot's signature Live P.A. stylings. The product is a dynamic genre bending mix of musical styles with a heightened live concert experience. The backing members are Alex Botwin and Lane Shaw who together make up two thirds of live electronic mainstay's Pnuma Trio. The Pnuma guys are no strangers to the live music circuit having kept up a relentless touring schedule, which has taken them as far as Australia and Japan in the last few years.
  • The Glitch Mob<br /> Los Angeles, CA<br /> <br /> The Glitch Mob is a four man musical collaboration with roots from San Francisco and Los Angeles. What initially started as a joke/loose affiliation soon stuck as edIT, Boreta, Kraddy and Ooah found themselves frequently playing the same shows and eventually tag teaming during back to back time slots. This eventually led to the four man sonic onslaught of ferocious bass, head cracking drums and infinitely complex rhythms. A proverbial Voltron effect on stage. Taking influences from hip-hop, experimental, and dance genres, The Glitch Mob have crafted their own form of futuristic dance floor hip-hop that has been "slaying" audiences world wide. Their live sets reinvent the dj “tag-team” concept with four performers on stage at once, interacting like a jazz combo, each taking the lead at intuitive moments, interweaving their own sounds, and remixing everything on the fly. The result is a sound distinctly their own, blending the deep head nod of hip-hop with serious bass music, throwing genre distinctions out the window.   • Rusko<br /> London, UK<br /> <br /> Christopher Mercer, aka Rusko was born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day one Rusko was surrounded by music. Whether it be his family’s pianos, guitars, banjos and saxophones…or the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of later years in Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Rusko’s life.<br /> <br /> After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through Sub Dub and a debut appearance from the Digital Mystikz. Having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities with Sub Soldiers label mate Caspa.<br /> <br /> Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko brought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive and quickly coined his own take on the genre and turned the scene upside down. His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit Cockney Thug has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold, and has been remixed by Buraka Som Sistema, Diplo, Caspa, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.<br /> <br /> Now at 23, Rusko is only in first gear, with collaborations on the table with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Yo Majesty and Wiley, the future sure is looking bright. Already setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists like Adele and A-Trak featuring Kid Sister, Rusko is headed in the right directions. Onwards, upwards and far beyond what most producers can dream of.
  • Goodie Mob<br /> Atlanta, GA<br /> <br /> Eclectic hip-hop/rap group Goodie Mob combines rhythm-and-blues, gospel, trip-hop, hip-hop, rock, soul, and acid jazz with positive messages to achieve a unique sound. Billboard's Shawnee Smith wrote, "[Goodie Mob] goes against the grain of what is being presented in the majority of contemporary hip-hop lyrics, which is what makes the group's music appealing." Since the group's first appearance on Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in 1994, the first release of the Atlanta group Outkast, an album that went platinum. Goodie Mob has had two hit singles and released two albums.

  • Manolo Black - Peligrosa All-Stars<br /> Austin, TX<br /> <br /> Trey Lopez a.k.a. Manolo Black has been providing sounds for the Austin nightlife for several years. He has played alongside an eclectic mix of acts, including Broken Social Scene, RJD2, Jurassic 5, Diplo, Kid Koala, Lyrics Born, Nouvelle Vague, Tortoise and many others. On stage, he has collaborated with a number of dj's, musicians and artists including the Nuyorican Poets, DJ MEL, Adrian Quesada (Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, Ocote Soul Sounds), DJ SUN, BABY G., John Speice (Hairy Apes, Ocote Soul Sounds, Brownout) & DJ DOLORES (Brazil). He was at the forefront of the new wave of underground and alternative hip hop acts that emerged during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He is signed to El-P's Definitive Jux label and is a current member of The Weathermen. Regarding his name, he said: "I acquired the name Aesop from a movie I had acted in with some friends. It was my character's name and it sort of stuck. The rock part came later just from throwing it in rhymes."

He has covered numerous styles throughout the years and it has grown to a fusion of thick, floor-creaking bass layered with rich, oozing melodies and syncopated rhythms.<br /> <br /> Jan 2009 saw the release of “ESKMO: Hypercolor”, shortly after which he was approached by Warp to do a remix off of Bibio’s “Ambivalence Avenue” . His first single for the notorious Planet Mu entitled “Let Them Sing”, is also set to come out Nov 2009.<br /> <br /> Eskmo has been featured in numerous publications and on such shows as BBC Radio 1 and<br /> RinseFM and has performed throughout the UK, into Spain, France and Canada. Front person/vocalist Akina lights up the stage as "the little woman with the big voice." Granddaughter of jazz trumpet great Nat Adderley, great niece of jazz saxophone legend "Cannonball" Adderley and daughter of Nat Adderley, Jr. (producer/pianist/band leader for Luther Van Dross), Akina brings a distinguished musical pedigree to the Vintage Playboys, who are a tight group of seasoned players from an eclectic musical background.<br /> <br /> The brainchild of four inspired musicians, AAVP is now a powerhouse 9-piece, and has become a vital part of Austin's newly resurrected "Soul Scene." The band has been playing for nearly 3 years, and has shared bills with such acts as Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Gary Clark, Jr., T-Bird & the Breaks, Pinetop Perkins, The Greyhounds, and Carolyn Wonderland. On the heels of a tremendously well-received SXSW '09 showcase, a successful taping for Radio Without Borders on Austin’s KUT 90.5 FM, and an enthusiastically welcomed debut album release, AAVP's fans and audiences are steadily gaining numbers.<br /> <br /> AAVP’s eponymous debut full-length record was released on March 28, 2009.
